《鬼天廈》故事靈感來自台灣知名的猛鬼大廈之一的兇宅，這棟位在台北市中心的大廈，曾在 30 多年內發生超過 20 多件命案，讓此棟的房價比周圍的其他建案都便宜許多。其中，最著名的事件便是在 80 年代的一場火災，造成 300 多人受困，最後奪走 19 條人命。已成為都市傳說的「燒肉粽事件」，一名女子因感情問題跳樓自殺，卻意外壓死樓下賣燒肉粽的小販的悲劇，也是發生在此大樓，讓大樓的恐怖名聲不徑而走，成為台灣最猛的兇宅之一。
The Haunted Apartment draws its inspiration from one of Taiwan's most infamous haunted residential buildings, a notorious property located in the heart of Taipei. Over the past three decades, more than twenty deaths and criminal incidents have been reported there, causing property values to remain significantly lower than those of neighboring developments.
Among the most widely known tragedies associated with the building was a devastating fire in the 1980s, during which more than 300 people were trapped and 19 lives were lost. Another incident that became part of Taiwan's urban folklore is the so-called "Rice Dumpling Vendor Tragedy"—a woman, distraught over a failed relationship, jumped from the building and tragically landed on a street vendor below, resulting in both of their deaths. The shocking event cemented the building's reputation as one of Taiwan's most notorious haunted locations.
Even after 2000, the building continued to be linked to a series of unsettling events, including a high-profile double homicide involving a young couple and several reported suicide cases. Stories have also circulated online from delivery workers and residents who claimed to have experienced strange and frightening encounters inside the building's elevators and corridors. Reports of paranormal activity and unexplained incidents persist to this day.

Jia-Ai believes that having a home means having a future. After breaking up with her boyfriend due to conflicting plans for the future, she is soon diagnosed with breast cancer. Determined to take control of her life, she undergoes a mastectomy and uses the insurance payout to purchase an apartment—trading her breasts for a home.
By day, A-Wei works as a real estate agent. By night, he performs in drag shows as a side job. Together with his fellow performers, he works hard to make ends meet while navigating the challenges in their own lives. Just as his girlfriend leaves him without warning, believing he lacks the ability to buy a home—a prerequisite for marriage in her eyes—Jia-Ai invites the heartbroken A-Wei to rent a spare room in her new apartment and help share the mortgage payments.
Both carrying emotional scars from past relationships, they gradually find comfort in each other's company. One day, Jia-Ai accidentally discovers A-Wei's drag performances and becomes fascinated by the artificial breasts that complete his stage persona. Later, A-Wei inadvertently enters Jia-Ai's bathroom and is stunned to find its walls covered with photographs of breasts. In that moment, the two reveal their deepest secrets to one another, forging an unexpected bond built on vulnerability, healing, and acceptance.
